Goldfish are dirty and tend to nip on gills; They are a big no if you ask me, have a few guppies (again originally for food), some shrimp and that's all in my tank.

I've got a goldfish, a few zebra danios and guppies, betta fish and some dwarf frogs. Oh, and some ghost shrimp and an ivory snail as cleaners in the fish tanks.
