Bringing Home Your Axolotl - Introducing To A New Aquarium
You're ready to go buy your Axolotl and bring it home. You have done your research and know everything, you got this. You are extremely excited to see your little one in its new tank. The last thing you want is to stress it out. Let's walk through some tips.
Settling In
The first thing you want to do before you start is to turn off your aquarium. This will help reduce the stress of your Axolotl especially if the little one travelled a long distance. You can turn them back on in about 24 hours.
You want to get your Axolotl adapted to the temperature in their new environment. Let the bag or container they came in float for about 20 minutes in the aquarium. After 20 minutes gently release your new Axolotls into their new home.
Normal Behavior
Don't freak out because your Axolotl is acting a little weird when they arrive, this is normal. Your Axolotl once released in the new tank will probably run straight for cover. Once your Axolotl is a little more comfortable with the new environment it explores every square inch of the tank. It is normal for Axolotls to be very active when they are placed into a new home, or if their home is changed (redecorated). Your Axolotl may also refuse to eat the first couple of feeding. These behaviours are normal for new Axolotls and are nothing to worry about, your Axolotl will be settled in and acting normally within the first few days.
